Nyeri APs skip meals as their hearts go out to Turkana’s hungry

NYERI, Kenya, Mar 30 – Administration Police officers in Nyeri on Wednesday carried out a food drive in an effort to contribute to relief efforts in Turkana which has been hard hit by the drought.

Clad in their uniforms, they drove along Karatina town streets before holding prayers with the clergy from the county.

They went down on their knees and intervened to the Creator to bless the country with rain.

According to Corporal Tabitha Maina, media stories showing how Kenyans are suffering due to hunger compelled them to start the initiative.

And for the last one month, said the county AP Commandant Njue Njagi, all the officers have skipped a meal on a daily basis just to save for their fellow starving Kenyans.

However, they are pleading with other Kenyans to donate foodstuff or money and help take them to the starving.

Tabitha said the exercise of collecting food will take one month before they start distribution.

Later in the day, most parts in Kieni especially Kieni East sub-county where most people are experiencing drought, rained heavily to an extent of displacing herders from Laikipia and Samburu counties.

The herders were forced to shift their livestock and take temporary shelter in high areas due to the floods.
