NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 – Residents in two wards within Baringo and Migori counties will on Wednesday cast their votes in County Assembly mini-polls where they are expected to elect new ward representatives four months to the August polls.

The by-elections are being held in Mumberes/Maji Mazuri Ward in Baringo and Central Kanyamkago Ward in Migori.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, polling stations opened at 6am and will close at 5pm to pave way for counting, tallying and transmission of final results.

“Election observers and party agents have been accredited to monitor the by-election. Returning Officer Vincent Kimeli is expected to declare the winner on Wednesday evening from the tallying located at Moi Highland Mixed High School,” Andrew Limo, IEBC Communications Manager stated.

The Mumberes/Maji Mazuri is a County Assembly Ward in Eldama Ravine Constituency, Baringo County.

The seat fell vacant following the death of the MCA, Peter Kimani Kagathi.

The ward has a total of 7,079 registered voters spread across its 20 polling stations. Two candidates are contesting in the by-election.

They are James Kimani Eliud of Narc-Kenya and Jubilee Party’s Susan Washuka.
