Wamathai to be sworn in as Nyeri Governor

Wamathai mourns Nderitu Gachagua when news of this death emerged/CFM NEWS

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 27 – Nyeri Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai is due to be sworn in Monday as Governor following the death of Nderitu Gachagua.

According to Acting County Secretary Anne Wachira, the swearing in ceremony will take place at the county headquarters.

According to section 182 of the Constitution, “if a vacancy occurs in the office of County Governor, the Deputy County Governor shall assume office as County Governor for the remainder of the term of the County Governor.”

News of the governor’s death broke on Friday.

Gachagua’s body will be flown back to the country on Thursday morning.

Wamathai said that Nyeri has lost a credible and legendary leader who will always be remembered for his development agenda.

Gachagua passed away while admitted to a hospital in London after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
