NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 8 – A businessman arrested while transporting uninspected and contaminated meat to the City Market is due to be charged in court Wednesday.
He was arrested following a crackdown by the Nairobi County Government Veterinary Department officers in collaboration with the team from the City Inspectorate Department.
The businessman had packed the rotten meat in five batches and at the time of arrest had already sold another batch as minced meat.
County officials urged all residents to be careful when buying meat and poultry and ensure that whatever is being sold to them is fresh and properly inspected.
“We urge all residents to be careful when buying meat and poultry. They should ensure that whatever is being sold to them is fresh and inspected properly.”
They stated that the Veterinary Department has heightened surveillance in respective slaughter houses.
