KDF repulse Shabaab during dawn attack on Somalia camp

“It is not true that the Al-Shabaab overrun our camp. It was an attempted attack which has been repulsed,” he clarified/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 27- Kenya Defence Forces Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna says KDF soldiers managed to repulse Al-Shabaab militants Friday morning following an attack at their camp in Kulbiyow town in Lower Jubba region of Somalia.

He said heavy fighting ensured between the militants and KDF soldiers but they managed to repulse the aggressors during the dawn attack.

Njuguna told Capital FM News that the soldiers who operate under AMISOM were clearing the area to ensure the threat was fully eliminated.

“We have killed a number of them but a comprehensive report is coming,” he assured.

“It is not true that the Al-Shabaab overrun our camp. It was an attempted attack which has been repulsed,” he clarified.

While he confirmed that several terrorists were killed, it is not yet clear whether the KDF suffered any casualties.

The attack comes a year after the El Adde incident in which a camp was overrun and more than 100 Kenyan soldiers killed.
