NAIROBI, Kenya, November 26 – The Selection Panel charged with reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has re-advertised the position of Chairperson.

The advertisement published in the local dailies called upon competent persons to apply for the position of IEBC chairperson after the Issack Hassan and his team of former Commissioners exited office on a negotiated settlement.

“Pursuant to Articles 88, 166(3) and 250 of the constitution of Kenya, 2010, sections 5 and 6 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, 2011 and paragraph three of the first schedule thereto, the selection panel for the appointment of commissioners at the IEBC invites applications from qualified persons who satisfy the provisions of the Constitution,” the advert stated.

“The names of all applicants and the interview schedule of those shortlisted shall be published in the print media, the Kenya Gazette, and on the Parliamentary Service Commission website after the closure of the advertisement,” it continued to state.

The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of six years.

On Friday, Panel Chair Bernadette Musundi stated that they have taken the decision in light of queries that have arisen on the suitability of the shortlisted pool following background checks.

The panel urged those who are qualified and failed to apply the first time round but believe they are up to the job to send in their applications.

She however indicated that there is no need for those who applied the first time round to do so again.

The interviews for those shortlisted for the six posts of IEBC Commissioner will still move forward as scheduled.
