Mandera elected leaders have lobbied for better co-ordinated, better manned police patrols/FILE
NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 21 — Mandera County Police Commander Job Boronjo has been moved in changes affecting 123 senior officers in the National Police Service.
Also moved within the couny were the officers commanding the Lafey and Basia police divisions.
Lamu County Police Commander Aphiod Nyaga has also been moved with his position being taken by Perminus Muchangi, who was the police boss in Lamu East.
Paul Wanjama, who has been the OCPD at Central Police station in Nairobi has also been moved to Muranga South in the same rank.
Robinson Thuku has taken over from Wanjama after he was moved from Tana Delta, in Tana River County.
John Katumo has been named the head of the marine police unit while Boronjo was moved to Kenya Police College as the Director of Studies, Junior Training Wing.
Ambrose Mwachia will now head of Diplomatic Unit, Remi Warui will deputise at the Railways Unit, Hassan Abdi will head Traffic Operations and Hilary Birgen is now Chief Armourer.
The new Bomet OCPD is Samson Rukungu after Abel Sande was moved to Marsabit Central in the same capacity.
The new changes have been made in a move to enhance security across various parts of the country, more so areas that remain prone to terror attacks like Mandera and Lamu.
Al-Shabaab militia continue to pose a security threat in the country and more so the counties bordering the porous Somalia-Kenya border.
In Mandera alone, tens of lives have lately been claimed during attacks by the milita.
On Saturday last week, 4 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in El-Wak, within the expansive county after a combined team of security officers thwarted a planned terror attack against high value targets including Police camps.
The Police Officers who were acting on intelligence pursued the militants who had been sighted between Dabacity and Borhole 11.
The team tracked the terrorists to Kobolo area near Falama where they engaged the group of 20 in a fierce exchange of fire.
The other militants fled after the police overpowered them.
Police recovered four AK-47 magazines three of which were full with 90 rounds of ammunition, two jungle jackets resembling those worn by the Somali National Army, seven mobile phones and one pocket phone.
The terrorists have been calling for withdrawal of Kenya Defence Forces from Somalia.
