Police are questioning the guard on how thugs drilled a hole into the bank using gas welding machines before they broke into two safes and made away with an unknown amount of money.
“We highly believe he was one of them,” Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome told Capital FM News of the Saturday night incident. He said the incident was reported to them much later.
None of the security guards was aware of the incident until Sunday morning when detectives accompanied by Equity Bank officials visited the scene of crime.
Koome said police will also record statements from some of the bank officials.
The bank has previously fallen victim of an almost similar incident when people walked into an Othaya branch and claimed they were auditors only to walk away with Sh30 million.
