NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 11 — The National Disaster Management Unit has appealed for cutters and drillers to aid in the rescue of those they believe remain trapped underneath the rubble of the four-storey building that collapsed in Kisii Town on Thursday.

He made the appeal as the death toll from the collapse hit six and the number of injuries stood at 44 up from two and 33 respectively.

“The building was under construction but there were kiosks next to it and passer-bys. That’s why we believe many remain trapped but the going is slow because we lack the necessary equipment,” the Incident Commander and Deputy Director of the NDMU Mwachi Pius Masai told Capital News.

Nyanza regional police coordinator Willy Lugusa had indicated that police are looking for the owner and contractor of the building to help with investigations as to why the building collapsed.
