NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 24 – World javelin champion Julius Yego is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Eldoret after being involved in a road accident on Sunday night.

Yego, who won silver at the Rio Olympic Games, was driving his Toyata Prado SUV when the accident occurred along Kapsoya Road at 10:00pm.

His week-old sports utility vehicle was written off and towed to Eldoret Central Police Station.

Yego, 27, who was alone at the time of the accident, was taken to Mediheal hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Yego has however assured his fans that he was fine and out of danger through his official Facebook post.

“God is living and great! I’m OK my people. Can’t believe am alive. Mungu yupo!! I’m in stable condition,” Yego posted on Facebook.

Three-time world 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop who was among the first people to arrive at scene of accident said Yego was okay only that doctors had recommended rest.

Kiprop was involved in a similar accident two years back with his BMW X6 also written off after plunging off the Kabarnet-Iten road.

The accident will affect Yego’s preparation for the 2017 season where he plans to defend his world title at the IAAF World championships at Olympic Stadium in Stratford, London.

In Beijing last year, the two-time Africa champion broke the Africa and Commonwealth record with a massive throw of 92.72 metres, which was the best throw in the world since 2006.
