NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 15- Police have recovered Sh1.4 million of the Sh3.5 million stolen from Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Eliud Mati from his bodyguard Josephat Kipgyenon’s bank account.

Two more suspects said to be connected with the robbery are also being held at Meru Police station.

The Deputy Governor says he was robbed by his bodyguard at a gunpoint at his homestead near Kinoru Stadium.

According to Meru Police, the bodyguard confronted the Deputy Governor when he was alighting from his vehicle and grabbed the bag containing the cash.

The bodyguard has since surrendered himself to police.

Reports indicated that the AP aimed his pistol at Mati forcing him to run for his life.

During the commotion, it was reported that the bodyguard left his shoes behind and disappeared.

The Deputy Governor alleged that he had received the cash from the sale of a piece of land.
