NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 6 – Isaac Michael Rutenberg has been disqualified from the race for the position of Deputy Chief Justice after he failed to meet the required threshold for the candidates.

Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi has told Capital FM News that Rutenberg has only four years experience as opposed to the minimum required for those aspiring to be the DCJ.

“Yes, it is true, the Judicial Service Commission panel has withdrawn the candidature of Rutenberg since he did not meet the threshold required for the candidates,” She stated.

Amadi indicated that as a result of this, the Judicial Service Commission did not see any need to continue with the interview.

“I am a citizen of Kenya, I am married to a Citizen of Kenya and we have two children, both Kenyan, I currently teach at the Strathmore Law school and my area of specialty are Intellectual property, ICT Law, entrepreneurship and innovation and these are foundational to Kenya’s development to a middle income country and a knowledge based economy which we have said is our goal by 2030,” Rutenberg stated as he appeared before the panel.

“I believe I have unique and unusual experiences in this area that would help the judiciary to continue to provide justice including in those emerging areas of law so Ii wish to submit my application for this position,” he said.

The panel later interviewed the last candidate, Justice Judith Mulama Wanjala.
