NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has threatened Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho with arrest after he led a group of youths in bringing down a wall on land belonging to a parstatal.

Marwa insisted that the 22-acre parcel of land belongs to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, and not the defunct Municipal Council.

“It is not right for government property to be brought down because a governor is leading a group of goons. This property has cost a lot of tax payers’ money to put up and you go there chest thumping,” he stated.

Marwa pointed out that it was wrong for the governor to demolish the perimeter wall constructed around the land with impunity.

“What is so special with Mombasa? What is special about Joho of the 47 governors that he must break the law with impunity and go scot free,” he asked.

“If I myself break the law as Marwa, is there a problem when I am arrested. So is there anything wrong in arresting Joho for his actions?” he posed.

Last week, Joho led a group of county askaris and hired youths to bring down a perimeter wall built by KBC around a plot the national broadcaster and the county have been fighting over.

Also present was County Executive for Lands Antony Njaramba as the rowdy youths brought down the wall at the 22-acre VOK grounds in Bombolulu.

The two leaders accused KBC of not seeking the county’s approval.

The land had been used as a dumpsite by the county before the wall was built around it last year.

However, KBC’s Coast Regional Controller Mwana Suleiman had said the corporation had fulfilled all the requirements by the county, including payment for the approval of erecting the wall.

KBC moved to court last year after the County Government wrote to the broadcaster accusing it of erecting the wall without approved plans and failing to notify its Lands Department.
