NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 6 – Four Nairobi Members of the County Assembly whose names appeared in the motion to impeach Governor Evans Kidero want the process stopped while claiming that they were not consulted.

They include Jeffer Kassam, Peter Njau, Charles Thuo and George Njoroge who are alleging that their signatures were forged and that they were not privy to the Notice of Motion tabled during a chaotic sitting on Tuesday.

“On 30th of September 2016, I was surprised to learn that my name and signature was among those who had purportedly signed in support of the Notice of Motion presented by the Honourable Samuel Nyang’wara on 28th September to impeach or remove from office the Honourable Dr Evans Kidero,” the affidavit signed by Kassam stated.

“I was neither party to nor privy to the said notice of motion and as such I did not sign in support thereof or at all and as such, my name and signature are a forgery to the extent that they are appended in support of the said notice of motion,” Njau said in his statement.

“I fully and unequivocally disassociate myself with the said notice of motion and categorically state that I did not sign in support of the said Notice of Motion at all,” Thuo also said.

“I will take appropriate action with the requisite authorities to ensure that the forgery of my signature as relates the said notice of motion is investigated and the perpetrators made to account.”

They have now written to the County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele urging him to suspend the process and have the matter investigated.

“Reasons wherefore, our clients call into serious question and scrutiny, the integrity, purport and propriety of the said Notice of Motion and have therefore instructed us to write to you to consider suspending the tabling of the said Notice of Motion before the Honourable Assembly until the issues raised by our clients which go into the heart of the integrity thereof have been investigated and brought to light,” the letter addressed to the clerk stated.

During the tabling of the motion, trouble started when Speaker Alex ole Magelo began the session by criticising the behaviour of CORD MCAs last week when they disrupted the tabling of the motion and roughed up Nyang’wara.

Following heckling by the leaders, Magelo ordered Eastleigh East MCA Nelson Masiga out of the House but he refused and proceedings came to a standstill as a scuffle between the Sergeants-at-Arms and his colleagues ensured.

After some time, Masiga eventually walked out and the motion was tabled even as CORD MCAs attempted to grab the mace in a bid to disrupt proceedings.
