NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 12 – The bail application for Nyando MP Fred Outa will be made Wednesday after he spent the night at the Kisumu Central Police Station.

Outa was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly inciting students at the Ahero Girls High School to strike, leading to the indefinite closure of the school.

He was also charged with causing destruction of the school’s property and causing a disturbance.

The MP denied all the three counts and was detained until his bail application hearing.

The students were protesting against the interdiction of their principal who is alleged to have embezzled funds, when the MP joined them and questioned police presence.

This is the third interdiction of the principal, after the Teachers Service Commission reversed two earlier interdictions.

In the meantime, Kisumu leaders led by the Governor Jack Ranguma called for a healthy working relationship between security officers and elected leaders in the county.

Ranguma promised to initiate dialogue between the MP and the Nyando sub-County Deputy County Commissioner following the alteration that led to the arrest of the legislator.

Kisumu gubernatorial candidate in 2017 Hezron Makobewa who was present also appealed for a cordial working relationship between elected leaders and security personnel.
