NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 1 – The government has extended an indefinite amnesty to Al Shabaab returnees to surrender to relevant authorities.
Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa is urging the youth to denounce the terrorist groups behind past attacks in the country.
“Any sympathiser should heed the call and come forward because you cannot fight with the government. That I can confirm to you. You cannot dodge a legitimate government and no action will be taken against you,” he said.
Marwa indicated that the State has mobilised adequate resources to deal with terrorism threats in the region and is urging for public support.
“But when you want to hide, you want to kill innocent Kenyans, you want to create fear, you want to be used by certain individuals. I can tell you that you will not succeed. The government has assembled sufficient security machinery in this region particularly as we move towards the elections,” he said.
More than 1,000 youth who had joined the Al Shabaab group have so far surrendered to the government in the de-radicalisation program launched last year.
