KAJIADO, Kenya, Sep 12 – A light aircraft on a training mission crashed within Kibiko in Ngong Monday, leaving a trainee and instructor injured.

Police confirmed the air crash occurred at around 10am, when the Cessna plane developed mechanical problems and went down in a maize farm.

The occupants were rescued from the wreckage and evacuated to AMREF Nairobi where they were treated of minor shoulder injuries and discharged.

The plane’s front wheel and rear stabilizer were damaged.

The Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) investigators are expected to take over the wreckage from the police and continue investigations.

The accident comes days after four police officers were injured after their helicopter crashed while on a routine patrol mission in Nairobi.

The Augstana Westlands helicopter which was unveiled in April this year at the National Police Service Airwing was overflying Mathare slums when it crashed within the National Youth Service field on Thursday afternoon.

On the same day, a woman was killed and five others injured when a light aircraft burst into flames after takeoff at the Naivasha airstrip.
