NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 2 – More than 30 Nyeri MCAs spent the night at the County Assembly in preparation for an impeachment motion against Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

Those interviewed said they opted to camp overnight to ensure their numbers remained intact, after fearing abductions or harm to any of them.

“We united and said we will sleep here because anything can happen to any of us or the Majority Leader,” one Member of the County Assembly (MCA) said outside the assembly on Friday morning.

Majority Leader Duncan Gituanja said he is confident Gachagua’s ouster Motion will sail through.

“Those people out there who are claiming that we have been paid to send the governor home are malicious,” the Kabaru Ward MCA said. “Our actions are motivated by the need to give the people of Nyeri the leadership they deserve because the governor has failed.”

The Motion’s mover and Kiganjo Mathari Ward MCA, Baragu Mutahi bragged there is nothing that will stop them from ousting Gachagua because they have the numbers.

“He has failed to manage county resources to ensure that the people are benefiting; he must go home,” he said.

But Governor Gachagua insists the MCAs are not justified in his ouster bid, saying he has always served the Nyeri people with dedication.

Previous attempts by MCAs in Embu, Kericho among other counties to impeach their governor’s were unsuccessful after being thrown out at the Senate.
