, NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 12 – Police have identified two of the three female attackers killed while attempting to storm police station in Mombasa, as Tasnim Farah and Fatuma Omar.

According to the Office of the Inspector General National Police Service, the two women are Kenyans.

"Immediate investigations into the incident revealed the attackers as Tasnim Yakub Abdullahi Fara and Fatuma Omar, who hails from Kibokoni, Mombasa County. The third attacker is yet to be identified," police explained in a statement bearing a photo of one of the suspects.

Three female accomplices, Saeda Ali Haji, Naema Nahamed Ahmed and Shukri Ali Haji were traced in Kibokoni in Mombasa and arrested to help police ascertain those behind the foiled attack.

Initial investigations on Sunday indicated that the three women entered the police station under the guise of reporting a crime and in the process stabbed a police officer and threw a petrol bomb in the police station.

“One attempted to stab an officer while the other threw a petrol bomb in a bid to cause a fire as the third one attempted to escape. Officers on duty acted quickly and gunned down all the three. One of the female attackers was wearing a suicide vest that did not detonate due to the quick action by the police officers,” police explained.

Members of public were urged to submit any information that would assist the police investigations through the Toll Free National Police Service Emergency Numbers 999, 112 and 911.
