NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 11 — Kenya will pledge Sh500 million during the fifth Global Fund Replenishment conference to be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Montreal, Canada.
According to State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, the President will attend the conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria on September 16.
He says Kenya is one of the top beneficiaries of the global fund in its fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria.
“Specifically, grants have been used to provide anti-malarial drugs freely to the public, to fund a Government Malaria programme which has delivered 27.6 million free doses of malaria medication to the public, trained 16,837 on malaria case management, and provided ARVs to HIV positive citizens and effectively diagnosed and provided treatment for 1.2 million tuberculosis cases, among many other achievements,” Esipisu broke down.
The conference, this year, expects to raise US 13 billion dollars to enhance the fund’s capacity to respond to the three diseases.
The President will also attend the 71st UN General Assembly that kicks off next Tuesday in New York.
At the UN General Assembly, the President will attend a number of high-level meetings and events that include a round table between East African Heads of State and CEOs which is expected to support integration processes and the private sectors of the region.
“On September 19, the President will participate in a high-level plenary meeting to discuss large movements of refugees and migrants. This is a key matter especially for us, considering government’s publicly stated decision on the future of the Dadaab Refugee Camp,” Esipisu announced.
The President is also due to attend the US-Africa Business Forum, the forum was first held in 2014 on the sidelines of the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit.
The business forum will provide the opportunity for US and African companies to discuss ways in which their collaboration addresses new opportunities and challenges in the wake of a rapidly changing global economy.
