NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 7 – A senior official at the Deputy President’s office has been hard-pressed to explain how his qualifications match those required for the post of Chief Justice.

AG: You have not practiced here in the High Court?

Wambura: Not here

AG: You have not practiced civil law, criminal law, commercial law, property law or family law?

Wambura: Not in the courts of law

AG: Your expertise is in International law and we will come to that shortly?

Wambura: Yes I could say that I have had an experience in domestic law and International Law.

AG: The Chief Justice as you know is the Chief Judge. So we are trying to find out how familiar you are with the courts. Do you have any experience practicing in the courts?

Wambura: Not in that sense

Wambura was among candidates initially disqualified for the CJ’s post by the Judicial Service Commission before the High Court issued an order in their favour.

He however got his foot in the door for the interview after High Court Judge George Odunga directed the JSC to reconsider those who applied for the post.

Wambura holds a post-graduate diploma in law and has served in various public service capacities including as Director of Legal Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
