NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 16 – Following the conclusion of interviews for the position of Chief Justice Thursday, the spot light now turns to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as it embarks on choosing the suitable candidate to succeed Willy Mutunga.
The JSC is expected to recommend to President Uhuru Kenyatta one suitable candidate for appointment after ticking off the strengths and weaknesses displayed during the interviews.
The initial shortlist included judges Smokin Wanjala, Msagha Mbogholi, Alnashir Visram, David Maraga, Roselyn Nambuye, and Nzamba Kitonga.
Six candidates who had been locked out including US-based law scholar Makau Mutua, Justice Jackton Ojwang and retired Judge Aaron Ringera were later invited for interviews after a court case.
In the meantime, interviews for the post of Deputy Chief Justice are set to begin on September 26th, with 16 candidates lined up to face the Judicial Service Commission.
Among those shortlisted include Justice Roselyne Nambuye and Mwaura Waihaga who opted out of the interviews for the position of Chief Justice.
Others to be interviewed include Dr Isaac Michael Rutenberg, Martha Koome, Abida Ali Aroni, Fatuma Sichale and Agnes Kalekye Murgor.
