NAIROBI, Kenya Sept 16 – The GEMA and Kamba Council of Elders have signed an agreement to pursue a joint political destiny as the country’s political climate heats up.
In the agreement signed on Thursday, the two community groups said they are gearing up to engage President Uhuru Kenyatta on a possible alliance.
“The GEMA and Akamba Communities will participate in joint cultural programs and exchanges to strengthen their ties and agree to continue working as brothers and sisters,” a joint statement issued after a meeting at Masinga Dam Resort states.
It said, the two groups will “lobby the national government to promote industrialization and modern agriculture, irrigate, sorghum, millet, and promote trade within the block.”
GEMA was represented at the meeting by its chairman Bishop Lawi Imathiu while Kamba Clans Governing Council was represented by Boniface Kilonzo James.
“The two communities shall engage both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kamba leadership to work together and solidify the political destiny of the two communities with immediate effect,” they said.
They also intend to engage both the national and the county governments to intensify civic education in order to explain the essence of unity of as the basis of growth in a nation.
