Wamalwa’s Range Rover Vogue had been registered as an Isuzu truck/FILE
NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 15 – Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s Range Rover is among 121 vehicles deregistered for failing to pay the requisite duty to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
In a statement in the local dailies, the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) and the KRA indicated that the vehicles’ registration was obtained fraudulently, or in a manner contrary to the provisions of the Traffic Act.
“The National Transport and Safety Authority has reasonable grounds to believe that the motor vehicle registration numbers listed below have been obtained in error, fraudulently or in a manner contrary to the provisions of the Traffic Act,” it pointed out.
Wamalwa’s Range Rover Vogue had been registered as an Isuzu truck. The CS who had purchased the car form Grace Wairaki had transferred the car ownership to his name and it had a Sh6.59 million debt owed to KRA.
“Pursuant to the Public Notice published on 10th June 2016, the Authority hereby invokes section 6 (10) and Section 6 (11) of the Traffic Act, Cap 403 Laws of Kenya, and withdraws the registration numbers with effect from the date of this notice,” the statement went on to state.
Owners of the vehicles are now required to surrender the registration numbers and Logbooks to the KRA for cancellation.
“Members of the public are notified that any motor vehicle bearing any of the registration numbers is not legally registered under such number. Accordingly, the owners of the said motor vehicles are hereby required to return the identification plates and registration books to the Authority for cancellation,” it stated.
Some of the vehicles had been registered as trucks or motor cycles, raising questions on the process followed to register them.
