EMBU, Kenya, Sept 14 – A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 100 years in jail by an Embu court after he pleaded guilty to defiling three minors.

Harrison Kinyua was convicted by Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru for defiling two 13-years-old girls and a 10-year-old in a church at Kangaru village, Embu West Sub County on December 9, 2015.

Kinyua is said to have locked the girls inside the church as they were returning chairs that had been borrowed to be used in a funeral.

He was with the girls at the funeral and followed them to the church.

He then sexually molested them and then bought them chips in exchange for their silence but they explained their ordeal to their parents.

Kangaru sub chief Irene Komu explained that when she was notified of the incident the following day she took the children to record statements at the Embu police station and later to the Embu Level 5 Hospital for medical examinations.

Doctor Christine Nyagilo confirmed that the girls were defiled.

Eight witnesses testified against Kinyua.

Kinyua had earlier denied the charges saying he had grudge with the families of the girls but after Gicheru pressed him, he said he thought the girls were mature enough.

He is also said to have given them Sh20 the previous day.

Gicheru in his ruling said evidence proved without any doubt that Kinyua committed the crime and thus deserved the sentence.

He said the offence was serious and the accused should serve the sentence to deter others.
