MOMBASA, Kenya Aug 6 – Congolese Rhumba artiste General Defao was on Saturday stranded at an apartment in Mombasa’s Nyali area after his promoter allegedly abandoned him.

Defao told journalists that the promoter had invited him to Mombasa for a show on Saturday July 30.

The promoter who owns a bar on the Mombasa-Malindi highway, allegedly failed to pay for Defao’s accommodation for two extended days amounting to Sh20, 000.

Defao told a media conference on Saturday that he was also not paid the agreed Sh90, 000 for the Wednesday show.

“The hotel has refused to let me go because the money has not been paid,” he said.

Defao’s bills were later paid by renown musician Jaguar.

The incident comes barely two weeks after another Congolese Rhumba Maestro Koffi Olomide was deported after kicking a member of his band at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
