NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 19 – The Government has waived fees for national examination for all private schools.
The extension of the waiver for private school’s students for the KCPE and KCSE exams from next year was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.
President Kenyatta at the same time said that there will be no review of school fee guidelines this year.
The President made the announcement as he stated that the Government continues to allocate sufficient resources to the management of schools.
He said that the money allocated to Free Day Secondary Funding, which stands at Sh29 billion in the current financial year, is sufficient to ensure 100 percent transition rate from primary to secondary school.
“Further to the education allocation, the CDF funds allocated in 2016/2017 is Sh34 billion with a significant amount expected to go to education. It is therefore, not necessary to review school fees guidelines. Consequently, the current fees guidelines will remain,” said President Kenyatta.
The President spoke when he hosted the Kenya Music Festival Winners’ State Concert at State House, Nairobi.
In his speech, the President urged the Teachers Service Commission (PSCU) to give special consideration to teachers of music, drama, sports and other talents when awarding promotions.
