NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4 – President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday held a meeting at State House, Nairobi, with 16 Members of Parliament from the Coast.

President Kenyatta, who was joined by Deputy President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, discussed development issues concerning the region with the delegation from Coast counties.

After the meeting, Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro, who spoke on behalf of the leaders, said they discussed development issues as well as politics with the President and DP Ruto.

Mungaro said they spoke about infrastructure, land, health, water and youth issues. He added that they also spoke about the Jubilee Party and the role Coast leaders will play in the new party.

“We will join the Jubilee Party and by the time it will be launched we will be at the centre and we will take our rightful place,” said the Kilifi North MP.

Mungaro said the Coast leaders have been at the forefront in seeking unity in the country and the Jubilee Party provides the right opportunity for them to exercise that wish.

The Kilifi North legislator said the group of MPs had set up many more meetings with Cabinet Secretaries to discuss the region’s economic needs.

The other MPs included Mustafa Idd (Kilifi South), Peter Shehe (Ganze), Harrison Kombe (Magarini), Khatib Mwashetani (Lungalunga), Zainabu Chidzuga (Kwale Woman Rep), Gonzi Rai (Kinango), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) and Shariff Athman (Lamu East) and Julius Ndegwa (Lamu West).

Others were Ali Wario (Bura), Sane Ibrahim (Garsen), Naomi Shaban (Taveta), Emma Mbura (Mombasa Nominated Senator), Mvita Kisasa Mshenga (Kilifi) and Senator Abu Chiaba (Lamu).

The President’s meeting with the coast leaders came after he held another one with Members of County Assemblies from Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
