NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 — Police say one of two pistols recovered from four suspected thugs killed on Thursday at City Cabanas belonged to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s murdered bodyguard.
Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome told Capital FM News that the bodyguard identified as Bakari Tsuma was shot dead in March this year by gunmen who grabbed the pistol and escaped.
“When we shot the thugs, we recovered it and forensic analysis has confirmed that it belonged to a former bodyguard of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko,” he stated.

He said the police were now trying to establish if the weapon was used in any other robbery.
Bakari had dropped Sonko in the Gigiri area and left for his residence in Mwiki where he met his death.
The four suspected thugs were shot dead after being trailed by police from Wangige where they had committed armed robbery.

According to Koome, the shoot-out between the robbers — who were headed to Athi River — and the Police occurred when the former became aware that the latter were hot on their trail at about 4am.
He said that the gang had been linked to a series of robberies in the Kiambu area including murder.
