NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 19 – Businesswoman Esther Passaris says she will ensure all Nairobi County government workers are vetted if she is elected governor in the 2017 general elections.

Speaking to Capital FM News, Passaris stated that her main agenda if elected will be on fast and efficient service delivery and ensuring Kenyans get value for their money.

She pointed out that once in office, she will deal with the garbage situation as well as ensuring that Nairobi residents get value for their money when they visit City Hall.

“Nairobi residents, I will be a hands on Governor, I will have an open door policy. You will call 24 hours and you will be able to get great service delivery. We will work during the day, we will work through the night. Those 17,000 people who are working at City Hall, you are going to work,” she said.

“Everybody will be audited and we will know what everybody is doing and by the way just like the policemen are being vetted, everybody in the county will be vetted,” she stated.

She further expressed confidence of getting the necessary support in the field which is full of competition with people like the current governor Evans Kidero, Senator Mike Sonko, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Margaret Wanjiru having declared their interest.

“I want to know what the County Government owns, I want to make sure that whatever we own is well managed. With slums within my tenure, we are going to upgrade them together. You are going to own your house,” she stated.

Other issues that Passaris promises to address include corruption and the culture of tribalism.

“For me what we need in the Nairobi County Government is good garbage trucks, good fire trucks, good ambulances and to be quite honest, where most of these sectors have been privatized, you use the private sector so that the city is actually teamed up with all these players,” she explained.

“With the public transport, there is a big problem, I would definitely introduce the bus lanes and I would have absolute total discipline with matatus. If you make traffic offence once, twice and three times you will not be allowed to drive in our city anymore. This is because we want to have order in our Capital City.”

Governor Kidero is headed to be Cord’s sole candidate since nobody in the coalition has challenged him yet.
