NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 – Police are looking for the driver of the bus that was transporting pupils of the Victorian Academy to the music festivals when it overturned, claiming the lives of two girls.

According to Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome, three of the girls remain hospitalised following the accident in which more than 50 students were injured.

Koome told Capital FM News that the driver of the bus that was carrying the 64 pupils from Meru keen on attending the national festivals, slipped away from the scene of the accident and has yet to be found.

“But we are after him,” Koome said.

Witnesses on the scene said the accident occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting a car ahead of them as it slowed down on approaching speed bumps.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, in response, has once again urged school heads and teachers to adhere to the Ministry’s transport policies.

“This will ensure the safety of children during the National Music Festival now taking place in Nairobi. The teachers should also keenly take care of the safety and health of the children in the areas the government has provided them for accommodation throughout this period,” he stated in a release to the press.

Kipsang further assured parents of the safety of their children as they participate in co-curricular activities.
