NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 30 – High Court Judge Msagha Mbogholi took the interviewee’s seat Tuesday morning, as the interviews for the post of Chief Justice enter the second day.

Justice Mbogholi appeared before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) panel led by Chairperson Margaret Kobia.

On Monday, Justice Alnashir Visram from the Appellate Court appeared before the panel where he pledged to prioritise efforts in minimising corruption, digitising court records and ensuring dialogue, especially among his peers at the Supreme Court if appointed.

Visram said he is also keen on dismantling up cartels that operate within the court precincts, which try to intimidate judges to get a ruling in their favour.

The interview panel included Attorney General Githu Muigai and Law Society of Kenya representative Tom Ojienda, who also took the judge to task over decisions touching on petitions involving Othaya MP, Mary Wambui and former Cabinet Minister, Nicholas Biwott.

The panel also sought his views on a range of contentious issues, such as the death penalty and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights.

Visram pointed out that if appointed as CJ, he would ensure that the independence of the Judiciary is never compromised.

Court of Appeal Judge David Maraga will face the panel Wednesday.
