NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 – At least three students of St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls High School in Kisii were killed in a accident while on a road trip to celebrate their new school bus which turned death trap when it overturned.

According to medical personnel at the Kisii Level 5 hospital, teacher and the bus driver were admitted to hospital.

Nyanza Regional Traffic Commander Andrew Naibei told Capital FM News that the accident occurred along the Itumbe-Igare road. “They were returning from a trip to celebrate the arrival of the new vehicle when the incident occurred,” he said.

The accident comes in the wake of another incident along Lang’ata road that resulted in the death of two girls.

The girls, among 63, were headed to Nairobi Primary School for a dance and drama performance when the accident occurred.

Witnesses say the accident occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting a car ahead of it as it slowed down at bumps.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has called on school administrators to adhere to Ministry guidelines on road safety to protect their charges.
