NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 22 – United States Secretary of State John Kerry will on Monday hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta on security, regional and international relations.
Kerry jetted into the country Sunday night and was received by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
“Kenya appreciates the cordial relations with the United States exemplified in exchange of high level visits. Secretary Kerry will also discuss regional security & concerted effort of fighting terrorism & violent extremism,” CS Mohamed tweeted.
In the talks with President Kenyatta, the two will also discuss the recent upheaval in South Sudan, as well as developments in Somalia.
“The visit is also important because it cements the continued engagement between Kenya and the United States at a very senior level, a year after a visit to our country by President Barack Obama. I am sure that President Kenyatta and Secretary Kerry will take stock of our bilateral relations a year on and exchange views on how to strengthen our engagements,” State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu said at a briefing earlier Sunday.
Other issues to be discussed include US investments to the country specifically in the energy and the infrastructure sector.
Kenya is considered key in the restoration of security, in the two neighbouring countries.
