NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 9 – A Chinese tour guide stabbed a woman to death and seriously wounded her husband after demanding they vacate a table at a luxury safari lodge in the Maasai Mara — a popular destination for tourists visiting the east African country.

The incident occurred at the luxurious Keekorok Lodge, a large game reserve in southwestern Kenya, where the couple – also Chinese – were having dinner at 7.30pm on Monday.

According to police, the assailant identified as Lee Changqin, is said to have demanded that the couple leave their table, prompting an argument, before he stabbed them both in the chest.

“The woman unfortunately succumbed to injuries on arrival at a local hospital, while the husband was admitted,” Gideon Kibunjah, Rift Valley County CID chief told Capital FM News.

We later established that the injured man was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

“The assailant has been arrested and will be taken to court once the investigations are completed,” Kibunjah said.

The deceased was identified as Luo Jinli aged 45 while her husband is Dong Ya, 47.

There were no details on when the couple arrived in Kenya for holiday. It’s understood that the attacker who is fluent in Kiswahili has been in the country for about 10 years and acts as a tour guide for Chinese tourists.

An official at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi said they had been notified of the incident.
