We will find lawyer’s killers and punish them, Boinnet assures

Autopsy reports on lawyer Kimani, Mwenda and Muiruri have since been tabled in court, revealing how they were tortured before being killed.

Despite the progress in the ongoing investigations, some lawyers want the IG, his deputy in charge of the Administration Police and the Interior Cabinet Secretary to resign.

“We are tired of assurances, they must go home,” Lawyer Edwin Sifuna said. “Never again…we do not want any other killing in this country. Those who are responsible must take responsibility.”

Four police officers accused of killing the three have been arraigned in court and remanded in police custody until July 18 when they plead to various charges -including murder and abduction.

Kanjama on his part said more culprits need to be arrested, since the murder involved several people.

“We believe that the culprit should number more than 10. There are those who were involved in planning, abduction, killing, facilitating and those involved in the cover up,” he said.

“It is a big group…we want all those involved to be nabbed and face the full force of the law.”

Veteran lawyer John Khaminwa called on the government to ensure that all rogue officers are removed from the National Police Service.
“This is shameful… let us all say no to extra-judicial killings,” the lawyer said.

Officials from Maendeleo ya Wananawake, FIDA and other right groups were also present, and called for justice to all victims of extra-judicial killings.

This year alone, 71 people have mysteriously disappeared according to the National Assembly Committee on Security and Administration.

Meanwhile, detectives investigating the killings of lawyer and two others say they have made remarkable progress after identifying the scene where the murders are believed to have been committed.

They are now keen on identifying two to three people – most likely civilians – who collaborated with four detained police officers in executing the killings, according to a senior officer briefed on the investigations but who cannot be named for lack of authority to brief journalists on an active probe.

Kimani, his client and taxi driver were abducted on their way from the Mavoko Law Courts before they were taken to the Mlolongo AP camp where they were detained.

Investigators say the three were not booked in the Occurrence Book, a major violation of the Police Standing Orders.

A joint memorial service in remembrance of the three will be held on Friday at Consolata Shrine, in Westlands, while Kimani will be buried on Saturday in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

Meanwhile, the Council of the Law Society of Kenya has set up a Pay bill number towards raising funds to assist their families towards funeral arrangements.

Well wishers can contribute through M-PESA Paybill Number 825555.
