KISUMU, Kenya, Jul 2 – Eight people have been confirmed dead following a road accident on the Kisii-Kilgoris road at Etora trading centre.

Six of the dead are believed to be university students who perished in the Friday 8pm accident.

Their destination was believed to be Nairobi but little is known where they were coming from. They were all female with a male driver who also perished.

The accident involved three vehicles according to Kisii Central Base Commander Francis Kithinji.

Kithinji says the seven-seater car in which the girls were travelling in was trying to overtake a mini-truck when it collided with an oncoming saloon car that was heading towards Kisii town.

He says the truck also smashed the rear of the seven-seater completely destroying it.

All the occupants in the seven-seater perished except one girl.

Two other people, one from the mini-truck and one from the saloon car also died while undergoing treatment at the Kisii Hospital.

Kithinji says only three people survived the nasty accident but with serious injuries.

They are undergoing treatment at the Kisii Hospital.
