NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 13 – Students and staff at the United States International University demonstrated on the Thika Superhighway Wednesday, over a “grabbed” piece of land reportedly sold to a businessman by retired President Daniel arap Moi.
The demonstration caused a major traffic snarl-up on the road as they marched to Muthaiga Police Station.
USIU insists the 20-acre piece of land belongs to the institution, but a Kenyan living in the US has provided documents insisting it was recently sold to him by the former President at a cost of Sh500 million.
USIU Vice-Chancellor Paul Zeleza said the decision to hold the demonstration has been sanctioned by the management board, with notifications already done to police.
Formal complaints over the alleged grabbing were lodged at the Kasarani and Muthaiga Police Stations respectively.
