NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 1 — This coming Thursday, July 7, has been declared a public holiday to mark the end of the month of Ramadhan.

Muslim faithful will be celebrating Idd Ul Fitr on the day by breaking their month long fast and exercise of abstinence.

Sightings of the moon are used to determine the start and end date of Ramadhan during which Muslims are required to practice charity in addition to abstinence.

At the start of Ramadhan security forces cautioned that the terrorist group Al Shabaab would intensify their activity and both Kenya and Somalia have borne testament to this in the last month.
