NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 24 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says he is not interested in supremacy battles with other Ukambani leaders but with offering transformative leadership.
He reiterated his commitment in initiating tangible development across Machakos County especially in the roads, water, trade, agriculture sectors and the creation of jobs for the many unemployed youths.
The Governor challenged Kamba leaders to focus on politics that foster development and unity and shun retrogressive politics.
“That’s why I am calling on Kamba elders to convene a meeting where leaders will come together and chart the way forward for the community,” he said.
Mutua described it as shameful that a section of leaders in Ukambani were only interested in acquiring positions and power and had no agenda for development.
Speaking to reporters in Kangundo after he inspected the ongoing tarmacking of the Kathiani -Kangundo road, Mutua said Ukambani had lagged behind in terms of development due to disunity among its senior leaders.
“As the Governor of Machakos, I am engaged in initiating tangible development projects that directly improve the lives of the people I lead,” he stated.
He said the road was being constructed by engineers and experts employed by the county government adding this ensured accountability and high standards of the works.
Mutua said upgrading of roads across the county will open up towns and villages thus easing communication and business.
Mutua said the Kenol -Koma road, Kenol-Kangundo and the Tala-Ol Donyo Sabuk roads were also being tarmacked adding their progress was impressive.
Residents of Kathiani and Kangundo sub counties lauded Mutua for the tarmacking of the road and assured him that they will re-elect him come the 2017 elections.
Mutua thanked the people of Kathiani and Kangundo for supporting his government and vowed to ensure that they benefit from the fruits of devolution.
He said that already the Sh2.5 billion water program across the county was on course with boreholes being dug at the village level to provide all homes with piped water.
“My focus is to have all homes enjoy piped water and showers. My people have to live in dignity,” he stated.
