MACHAKOS, Kenya, Jul 14 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has suspended three senior officers at the Kathiani Level 4 Hospital over lethargy and inefficiency in service delivery.

Mutua who made a surprise tour of the hospital said his government was committed to offering quality health care and will not compromise on offering the best services to the people.

“Health is wealth and I want to assure the people of Machakos that access to quality health care is their right,” said Mutua.

Mutua was accompanied by his entire Cabinet, Chief Officers and other senior officials.

Mutua directed that the hospital be fully equipped with the required drugs and other essentials to ensure that patients get value for their taxes.

He also directed that a borehole be sunk at the hospital to enable the facility be self sufficient in water supply.

“Water is vital in any institution and once the borehole is sunk it can also serve the neighbouring Kathiani town,” said Mutua.

He said floodlights will be erected within the hospital to improve security at night.

Mutua also directed that all broken down equipment in the hospital be replaced immediately.

The Governor who toured the hospital wards donated heaters to the wards to ensure that the patients were not adversely affected by the cold weather.

Later, Mutua inspected ongoing works at the Kathiani-Kangundo road which is being upgraded to tarmac status.

He ordered the road engineers to ensure that the project was completed on time adding this will help improve communication in areas where the road traverses.

Mutua also visited the Kivaani Health Centre where he inspected services at the facility and where he directed medical staff to improve their service delivery.

The Governor later addressed a roadside rally in Kangundo town and where he urged residents to continue supporting his government.

He reiterated that he will not be cowed by his critics whom he said were afraid of his development brand of politics.

“They are scared of my politics of development since they are used to lying to the people. I will continue to work for my people whether my critics like it or not,” said Mutua.

He reiterated that his government had embarked on key projects that positively impact on the lives of the people in the water, roads, health, agriculture, trade and other key sectors.
