NAIROBI, Kenya Jul 20 – A police officer who resigned six months ago caused drama at the Lang’ata Police station Wednesday after undressing to demand audience with the Inspector General of Police.
The incident attracted onlookers at the station as the officer ditched his clothes and instead wore sacks demanding to be reinstated.
Officers at the station said he tendered his resignation in January on realising he was about to be fired after abandoning work to preach at bus stops while in uniform and armed.
“He was one of us until January when he resigned,” one officer said. “We were surprised to see him this (Wednesday) morning stripping outside the station before he wore a sack and started shouting.”
The officer was later arrested and handcuffed before he was placed in the cells.
A senior officer said they were contemplating charging him for becoming a public nuisance but Lang’ata Police Chief Elijah Mwangi was non-committal, only confirming that the man had been working there before he resigned.
