NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 5 – A fourth police officer linked to the murder of city lawyer Willie Kimani and two others has appeared in court, and will be detained for the next 13 days.

Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandhani ordered that Sergeant Leonard Maina Mwangi be held to allow police complete investigations into circumstance surround the death of the advocate, his client and a taxi driver.

The court ordered that the suspect be produced in court on July 18, 2015 when three other police officers are expected to appear before the Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The prosecution through Duncan Ondimu told the court that Mwangi was nabbed on Monday, and police have not had time to piece together evidence concerning the killing of three.

He said that the suspect who is attached to the Syokimau Administration Police Post was likely to interfere with witnesses if released at this stage.

Police have not recorded statements from witnesses, saying that 13 days will be enough for officers to complete their investigations.

Lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were found murdered after missing for a week.

Senior Sergeant Fredrick Leliman, Corporal Stephen Chebulet and Police Constable Silvia Wanjiku have already been arraigned in court but have not taken plea as investigations progresses.

They are also due back in court on July 18.
