NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 28 – A woman has been arrested after she killed and later burnt the body of her nine-month-old baby boy at Uhuru Park.

Police say the woman is believed to have killed the infant elsewhere and later brought him to the park where she set him on fire.

According to Nairobi Police Chief Japheth Koome, pedestrians who were passing through the park called police but on arriving, the boy had died.

“The police were called after members of the public realised the baby boy had died and had been burnt. It is not clear what drove the woman to the act but she will be interrogated before being produced in court with murder,” he stated.

He pointed out that the baby’s remains were later taken to the City Mortuary.

Elsewhere, a suspected gangster was shot dead in a botched robbery in Ridgeways and a gun found on him.

According to police, the suspect was in the company of accomplices and had been attacking and robbing pedestrians and motorists along Thindigwa Lane when police were alerted.

Police stated that the gang had attacked four motorists when an alert was sent out.

The other suspects managed to escape on foot into a nearby coffee plantation.
