KURESOI, Kenya, Jun 18 – Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence over Kiambu Governor William Kabogo remarks declaring that he is not guaranteed block votes from Mount Kenya region in his 2022 presidential bid.

Speaking in Kuresoi Constituency, Ruto defended Kabogo from criticism saying he will take up his challenge to vigorously seek votes during the 2022 General Election.

“I am amused that some people have been criticizing my brother Kabogo for stating the truth, do they think that I will be elected president by simply staying at home without going out and campaigning, or has anyone ever been elected while sleeping? Ruto asked residents at Mau Secondary School where he distributed 831 title deeds to Kamara Settlement Scheme squatters. He also handed Mau Secondary School a bus.

The Deputy President said Kabogo was right to ask him to reach out to the people of Mount Kenya to vote for him.

“I want to assure you, Mr. Kabogo, that I will hustle in every village and corners of this country to ensure that I get it. And that is good advice, that I should start getting my point men in every region. That is a job that you know I can do, because we have accomplished together,” the DP said.

Under the agreement bringing together President Uhuru Kenyatta’s The National Alliance Party and Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP), the Deputy President will be vying for the presidency in 2022 once President Kenyatta completes his second term in office.

Kenya will be going for elections in 2017 during which Kenyatta will seek a second term in office as president and Ruto as his running mate having been elected in 2013.

Kabogo who had accompanied the Deputy President described Ruto as a friend, declaring that he will fully back him for presidency in 2022.

“Deputy President William Ruto will be President in 2022. If there is anyone who has doubts it is not me,” said the Kiambu Governor.

Kabogo’s remarks two weeks ago sparked outrage from Central and Rift Valley legislators who said they did not reflect the situation on the ground or their position.
