NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 5 – More than half of Kenyans believe that the government will be able to deliver better services following termination of the cases facing President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto by the International Criminal Court, according to an opinion poll released Sunday.
Solon Independent Poll Lead Researcher Edward Wanyonyi said the 65 percent of those polled said they believe that there will be better performance by the government now that its key officials are free.
Western and Nyanza counties had the least support of the opinion, while Central and Rift Valley Counties polled the highest.
“Matters like economic factors play a very big role in this, also we know we are approaching the next election and so there will be appetite for government to put in more effort or various departments to come together or also just the fact that there have been quite a lot of efforts to do re-organisation of the government and so there will be better working and information,” he said.
At the same time, the poll found that 62 percent of the Kenyans sampled felt that there will never be post-election violence in Kenya again.
“This is a question demands a lot of analysis; does it mean, the institutions that deal with electoral conduct have become more credible? Does it mean also that the Judiciary has also proven itself to be very capable to be handling disputes or institutions which are charged with issues concerning national cohesion have actually been able to deliver on their mandate?” Wanyonyi posed.
Respondents in Rift Valley polled the least with 28 percent while 47 percent of those in western thought that PEV will happen again.

The poll also collected Kenyans views on whether they believed the ICC has the ability to deal with impunity in Africa.
“More than half of the sampled interviewees (61 percent) feel that the ICC has the ability, with Central counties scoring the least (47 percent) of the opinion while Western (67 percent), Nyanza (66 percent) Coast (65 percent). Rift Valley and Eastern both recorded 63 percent respectively.
Fifty three percent of Kenyans sampled said they were against Kenya’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute that establishes the ICC; while 47 percent of the respondents supported the withdrawal.
Wanyonyi said Central counties (61 percent) has the highest followed by Rift Valley (53 percent).
