NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 13 – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has demanded the arrest of four MPs among them Moses Kuria of Gatundu South, after he allegedly called for the assassination former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

ODM lawmakers Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi County Woman Rep) and Florence Mutua (Busia County Woman Rep) threatened to storm the office of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on Thursday if Kuria was not picked up within 24 hours.

“If they do not take any action, on Thursday morning we are all headed to the office of the IG so that we can tell him what he is supposed to do as the IG of this country. Someone cannot threaten Raila Amolo Odinga and sit easy. So people should be serious with the utterances they make out there,” Mutua stated.

“They are saying that they are investigating… what are they investigating? The matter is so clear like daylight, Members of Parliament were seen throwing stones in Nakuru; Members of Parliament were seen very clearly in Kasarani inciting people, they should instead arrest those members and take them to court,” Mohamed added.

The MPs likewise demanded the Jubilee Coalition withdraws Kuria’s nomination from a Joint House Select Committee formed to resolve the stalemate over the IEBC.

Kuria allegedly called for the assassination of CORD leader Odinga in remarks he made at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

A video where he speaks in Kikuyu was widely shared on social media.

“Moses Kuria’s nomination to sit in the panel is a waste of time, and we don’t see any agreement being struck as long as he is there. We are asking the President to come out clearly and state whether he shares in the statements Moses Kuria made,” Jumwa said.

“Kuria is supposed to be a negotiator seconded by the President to the envisaged talks to the future of the IEBC. Kuria cannot be negotiating, while calling for Raila’s assassination at the same time,” Bosire added.

Bosire and Kilifi County Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa also called for the arrest of Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, MPs Ferdinand Waititu, Maina Kamanda and Kimani Ngunjiri who was captured on video asking a group of young people in Nakuru to ensure that members of a certain community are forcibly evicted from the town.

“We are here to condemn the recent primitive, divisive and reckless acts that have put lawlessness, intolerance and impunity at the centre of our politics again as we race to the 2017 elections,” Bosire said.
