NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 18 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has warned CORD leaders against using Sunday’s planned rally in the County to cause violence.
In a statement, Mutua welcomed the opposition leaders and their supporters but warned that the county security apparatus will not entertain violence or allow any kind of hooliganism to take place.
“We welcome all organizations including the CORD leadership to visit Machakos County for their planned prayers this weekend. We warn them that we have over 500 functioning CCTV cameras in Machakos County and a Rapid Response Unit to protect the property and lives of our people. We will not allow hooliganism to hurt even one hair of a Machakos girl,” the governor said.
The County boss, also urged residents of Ukambani to pray for those coming for the CORD prayers to desist from spewing hate speech which can lead to violence.

“We request that the courts be given respect and not ultimatums. Giving our court system ultimatums whereas those arrested are from various political persuasions, is improper, undemocratic and an attempt to threaten the judicial system. This is improper,” he said.
The Machakos prayer rally is being held in solidarity with the five CORD MPs who were charged on Friday with hate speech and incitement to violence before they were released on bond after spending four days in police custody.
Opposition MPs Junet Mohammed (Suna East), Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi County Women Representative), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Florence Mutua (Busia County Women Representative) and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama were arrested alongside Jubilee Coalition’s Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) and Kimani Ngunjiri of Bahati.
