NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 8 – Joel Kitili has been sworn in as the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Kenya Police.
Kitili was sworn in by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga in the presence of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to formally over the position left vacant by Grace Kaindi who retired last year.
Kitili, who previously headed the General Service Unit, has been on an acting capacity in the DIG’s position.
Women lobby groups had opposed Kitili’s confirmation to the post, insisting that one of the two DIG’s must be a woman.
The other Deputy Inspector General of Police is Samuel Arachi who heads the Administration Police.
