NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 10 – A family in Nyandarua wants the government to assist in investigating the death of their kin in Iceland.

The family from Gathanji village says Susan Mwihaki died under mysterious circumstances with reports suggesting she committed suicide.

The man she was supposedly living with informed the family that she ended her life after she was sacked from employment but her father John Maina described her as jovial and stated that she was in constant communication with them until June 3.

“My younger daughter told me that she was worried as she could not get in touch with her through her phone. She had called but there was no answer. So I also called her since then but it rang without being answered,” he stated.

Maina indicated that efforts to get assistance from the Kenyan Embassy in Iceland did not provide further details over what happened but that she was dead.

According to the family, the friends she was living with in Iceland now want them to state whether they want to bury her in Kenya or for her body to be cremated in Iceland.

“We would want to appeal to the government to help us being her body back because we got information that Iceland usually cremates bodies,” her mother stated.

“The most sorrowful thing is that we do not know how she met with her death but we would want to request the government to help us out in the investigations,” one of her teachers in secondary school stated.

According to her father, the deceased was lured to go to Iceland by a friend she was schooling with and travel arrangements were done.

He said they met with the un-identified friend in Mombasa where they were working in a firm prior to her travel.

Family and relatives have expressed their wish to give her a respectful burial at home but lamented that they were not in a position to raise funds to facilitate the transportation of the body.

Her Facebook account shows she last updated her status on May 23 at 21:22 while at Reykjavík, Iceland where she lived.
